August 2002 Newsletter

Recently I was speaking to a fine Christian woman after preaching in her church and she asked if she had been dropped from the mailing list for the newsletter, as she had not received one in a long time. I assured her that she had not been dropped but that a newsletter was long overdue. What you have in hand is that newsletter.

We have enjoyed the winter and spring activities greatly. A number of new situations have come to hand that we would like to share with you.

A fine young man called me one day and brought me up to speed on his life. We had not spoken for 15 years or more since he dropped out of sight. He was now living an immoral lifestyle and was greatly convicted about it. He professed to be a Christian and wanted my counsel on how to sort through the rubble of his life and begin building something that would honour the Lord. Regular meetings took place and we sifted through the elements of his situation with him and helped him reconstruct a lifestyle that glorifies God.

An email from a friend recently told me about a remorseful young man in the Toronto West Detention Center who wanted a visit from a minister. He did not know anyone who could help him and I answered his cry for help. Regular visits are being established and we are seeking to bring him to the Saviour who loves sinners.

A widow called to see me who had no one else to turn to. She is in her 80's and her health is failing. She is struggling with her lack of function and wants to maintain a good testimony in front of her family as she gradually has reduced abilities to care for her own needs. Through a series of visits and correspondence we have been able to help her stabilize and accept her changing lot in life.

A Christian worker who had fallen into sin some years ago has connected with me. He too has no one else to turn to and wants help in rebuilding his broken world. I knew him years ago when he was happily serving the Lord. He felt he could confide in me his doubts and frustrations as he tries to make sense of his situation.

A relatively new Christian, with whom I have been meeting regularly for Bible studies, is slowly dying. He does not have a lot of biblical knowledge or Christian experience to fall back on as he faces death. He regards me as his pastor and seeks my help in his situation. It is a joy to witness his calm demeanour in light of what is in front of him. The Lord is graciously ministering to him through me, and he calmly addresses each new day in light of the biblical teaching we seek to give.
