September 2001 Newsletter

The summer has passed too quickly and already we are entering the fall activities. The article with this newsletter explains how we spent almost four weeks of our summer.

The ministry at Elim Lodge in July went well and we are booked to return there in the summer of 2003. While there we made several new friends including a fine young Baptist pastor who has invited me to preach at his church in September and for a conference in the spring. Tapes of the messages preached at Elim this summer on the Sermon on the Mount and Job may be ordered from Elim Lodge, R.R.#1, Peterborough, ON K9J 6X2 (705) 657-8306, email: elim@peterboro.net

This month I am preaching at Grace Bible Chapel in Timmins for two Sundays. It's always a delight to be among our friends in the north.

For the month of October we will be in Hamilton at Bethany Gospel Chapel and for the Sundays in November & December I expect to preach at Bendale Bible Chapel in Scarborough.

Susan resumes her Thursday morning Bible studies at Oakridge Bible Chapel. She also maintains a full schedule of giving spiritual direction to a number of women in crisis. She will be teaching again this fall at our single mom's program.

The second Thursday each month I meet with several keen young men to study the Gospel of John and pray together. It is a good time of sharing our spiritual challenges in life and learning how to feed ourselves from the Word.

Calls continue to come to me to counsel people in need. Recently a family from our church called to see if I would visit a neighbour who is terminally ill. We called the neighbour and had a fine visit. The patient is well aware of his prognosis and wanted a minister to do the funeral for him. We have agreed to assist and regular visits will be made to be of spiritual assistance and make the necessary plans for the memorial service. This type of scenario is a common occurrence and we welcome calls to assist people without a church to help in time of need.

A recent Seminary graduate continues to meet with me for counsel as he seeks the Lord's direction for a sphere of service. Other Christian workers seek our counsel from time to time as they face unusual challenges in ministry.

Our daughters Stephanie and Jacquie have finished high school and have spent the summer working at a bed and breakfast in Cape Cod. It has been a fabulous learning and maturing experience for them. The house has been very quiet with them absent and Cameron the only child home.

On September 29 our son Paul will be married to Meredith Chamberlain. We thank the Lord for this fine young Christian woman who has won Paul's heart.

Because much of our holiday time in the summer was taken up in emergency ministry we shall be taking a week to be in Florida as a family the beginning of November.
