“Where can I flee from your presence?” Psalm 139:7 (NIV)
I am fascinated by those people who go through such intellectual contortions to try and prove there is no God. Why waste your time arguing about someone who does not exist?
Several eminent scientists have confessed, inadvertently I think, that they find the idea of a supreme being repulsive. They do not seem to recognize that they are emotionally rejecting the idea of God first and then scrambling to find scientific reasons to support their decision not to believe in God.
A leading scientist in his day, Professor D. M. S. Watson was quoted as saying, “The theory of evolution (is) a theory universally accepted not because it can be proved by logically coherent evidence to be true but because the only alternative, special creation, is clearly incredible.” This is an honest admission by a scientist that he approaches the evidence with a profound bias against believing in God.
If you have determined the conclusion before hearing the evidence then there is no need for the trial. You have decided the verdict before entering the courtroom. However, when you look at the beauty and intricacy of the world in which we live there is no possible way of denying an intelligent Mind behind it all unless you have decided the matter ahead of time.
God has made such a beautiful world that any normal person can see He is an awesome Person and we need to connect with Him ASAP. The thing created cannot be as complex or powerful at the one who made it.
When we try to calculate the immensity of space and the power generated by the stars we are overcome with awe at what God must be like. The Psalmist rightly declared, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” Psalm 19:1 (NIV).
Listening in summer to the various songs that distinguish each bird can impress us with the creative imagination of God. Watching a gorgeous sunrise or sunset inspires us beyond measure. How amazing that the Creator has given us ears with which to hear and eyes with which to see all the glories of creation.
There is no place in the universe that we can go and escape the watchful eye of God. However some people want God to be blind if He exists because they are fearful of His response to their way of life.
Many people draw much comfort from the fact that God sees them wherever they are. They may live alone and find it sorrowful, they may be in a bed of sickness for a long time, they may go through life not having what most people enjoy. But God knows and it is enough.
In Genesis 16 (the first book in the Bible) a woman named Hagar had her life messed up and she ran into the wilderness to die with her unborn child. God came and spoke to her and told her to go back and face the music and He would be with her. She then said, “You God see me.” Genesis 16:13.
Does this great and powerful God see you? He calls to all who sense their need of Him to come and find the grace to deal with any problem they have. Creation speaks and tells us He is all powerful, all wise, and loves so much. What hinders you from praying to Him today?
