Thinking Of You

“How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand—
when I awake, I am still with you.”
Psalm 139:17-18 (NIV)

Recently my wife and I travelled to Newfoundland, over 1400 km from our home.

It was the only province in Canada that we had not visited and while we were there we were daily in communication with the ones we love at home. Of course we told them we missed them and were thinking of them every day, and we prayed for them daily.

There is an old saying that goes as follows—Absence makes the heart grow fonder—and this was our experience.

Psalm 139 is about God knowing all about us, having fashioned us in our mother’s womb he guides us all through life. There is nowhere we can go from the watchful eye of our Creator. He has seen us from the time of our conception. He knows all our thoughts and He knows what we will say before we speak one word.

The Psalmist reminds us that God’s thoughts are always on us and being so open to the searching eye of God brings him comfort. God is always watching us and always guiding us.

When the Psalmist refers to God’s thoughts toward him being more numerous than the sand of the sea, he means that God thinks of him always. No one can place a number on the sands of the sea.

The photo for today is of someone standing by two columns of sand and the approximate number of grains of sand in the smaller column is 65,000,000 and the larger one is 4,550,000,000. Together they represent only a very small portion of the number of grains of sand on the earth.

Those of us who call our Creator “Father” have the privilege of knowing that God is always thinking of us. Not only is God “thinking of us”, but His thoughts lead Him to actions toward us that works for our eternal good.

We rejoice in the truth that we are thought of every moment of the day by our God and Saviour. We may at times forget Him but He never forgets us. Psalm 17:8 refers to the believer as the “apple” of God’s eye. God’s love for His people is without limit and is endless.
