“I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten—“
Joel 2:25 (NIV)
Among the people I counsel with are those who have the sense that they have wasted some or much of their adult years on things that are of little value. Some have built a financial empire at the cost of their marriage or children.
Some people see that they have built a fortune for someone else and have little for themselves to show for their work. Others wish they had chosen a very different career than the one they took on as young adults.
Now these people seem paralyzed by their sorrow over wrong choices in early adult life. What a sorrow it is to be near someone who has this kind if issue to face.
Our verse today is full of promise from the Lord for people in this dilemma. Our God is able to redeem us and make our latter years highly productive. Our sovereign Lord is well able to make 10 years appear like 40 if we whole heartedly turn ourselves over to His leading.
It is never too late to either come to faith in the Lord Jesus or to give Him what is left of our lives for service as He directs. The wonder of our Lord is that He restores the broken with all the gentle grace that is needed. He is well able to strengthen us at any stage of life to accomplish much that will give us encouragement and also exalt Him as well.
Do not let Satan defeat you because of foolish choices earlier in life. You cannot change what has happened. No one is able to rewrite history but anyone is able to write a new and glorious future for the glory of God.
This is the grand and brilliant promise in our verse today. Read and reread this verse Christian, and then bring it to your loving Father in heaven in prayer. He is willing and able to assist you in writing new chapters in life that will cause the past to fade away entirely.
Again I tell you to get up and start moving forward into the greatest adventure possible. Walking in the light of God’s favour is the purpose for which you have been created. Regardless of your past wrong choices ask the Lord to make you choose His way and call on Him to empower you to do what He has caused you to choose.
Remember Paul’s exciting words in Philippians 2:13 (NIV) “…for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.” Go in the strength of The Lord and make up for lost time.
