Out Of Control

I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.”

A week ago I lost my mind for a couple of days. I was taken to hospital with a very serious onset of a bacterial infection. I was given the best of modern day medical treatment for which I thank God. Within three days I was thinking clearly again.

During that interval of irrational thought I knew something was very wrong and it was frightening. I was out of control and nothing I might do would bring me back into a sane intelligent way of thinking. Loving people around me kept me from harm.

Life is sometimes like that experience of mine. We go along thinking we have everything under control, we assume we are doing the right thing, making the right choices but the reality is that we are not in charge of things at all. Then we realize we are confused, disoriented, uncertain of ourselves.

How good it is to come early in life to the place where we know we are in need of Someone Who is really sovereign, Who is really all wise, Who really does love us and is interested in our well being.

The sooner we come to the end of our own resources the better. It is then that the Lord will move in and do wonderful things that cause us to know we are loved by the Creator of the universe and that He is walking with us through this life.

Our submission to the Lord is the beginning of true freedom. Dear old Isaac Watts never wrote so gloriously as when he penned the following words:

My dear Almighty Lord,
My conqueror and my King,
Thy sceptre and Thy sword,
Thy reigning grace I sing:
Thine is the power;
behold I sit In willing bonds beneath Thy feet.

Has the Lord opened your eyes to see that you are not in control of your own personal destiny? Is your heart fearful about your situation? Will you willingly, joyfully, even enthusiastically bow your knee to this One Who is the true sovereign of the nations?

He waits for you to come to your senses enough to embrace His love and grace today. Yield control of everything to this One Who loves sinners and died and rose again on their behalf.

    Amen! Thank you for reminding us of the many paradoxes of the Christian life – we are only truly free when we truly submit to our King! And it is in the deep valley that we have the best vision of his majesty. So glad to hear you are well again Gordon. Grace and peace brother….
