Too Plain for Some TV Preachers

“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.’”
John 14:6 (NIV)

For the time will come when people
will not put up with sound doctrine.
Instead, to suit their own desires,
they will gather around them a great number of teachers
to say what their itching ears want to hear.”
2 Timothy 4:3 (NIV)

Recently I watched a 5 minute clip of a speaker referring to something he saw on Larry King Live. Larry King was interviewing one of the most popular “Christian” preachers in the USA today. King asked a number of quite simple questions among which were the following.

King: “Will only those who believe in Christ get to heaven?”

Preacher: “I don’t know.”

King: “What if you are Jewish or Muslim and you don’t accept Christ at all? Can you still get to heaven?”

Preacher: “I don’t know. I’m very careful about saying who would and who wouldn’t go to heaven.”

On it went. Sadly, each time the speaker quoted the famous preacher’s confession, “I don’t know.” in answer to King’s simple and direct questions, the many preachers present laughed out loud. I must confess I did not think it funny at all. Preachers are to do as the late Billy Graham did. He peppered his preaching with the phrase, ‘the Bible says…” Graham never had the many doubts that the preacher apparently has. This preacher would not say what the Saviour made perfectly clear.

In the opinion of Jesus, He is the only way to the Father and to heaven. He could not have made that plainer. Yet this supposedly Christian minister deliberately muddied the waters.

I know that some things in the Bible are hard to understand but the biblical teaching on the way of salvation is so clear a young child can understand it. In Matthew 18:2-3 (NIV) Jesus did and said the following,

“He called a little child to him,
and placed the child among them.
And he said: ‘Truly I tell you,
unless you change and become like little children,
you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Are you willing to humble yourself and “become like little children” accepting the very clear teaching of the Bible? Will you believe the words of Jesus that He is the only way to heaven? Will you trust Jesus just as a child trusts their loving mother? Come to this wonderful Saviour today, bow before Him and sing with the great hymn writer Isaac Watts:

My Savior and my Lord,
My Conqu’ror and my King,
Thy scepter and Thy sword,
Thy reigning grace I sing:
Thine is the pow’r; behold I sit
In willing bonds beneath Thy feet
