Our Source Of Strength

“…but those who hope in the Lord
 will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.”
Isaiah 40:31 NIV

A sight I love to see occurs when I drive on the highway and see eagles soaring high in the heavens.

Eagles enjoy flying over the highway because of the thermals that allow them to stop working with their wings, and allow the rising air to lift them higher. (A thermal is a column of rising air.)

The sun shines on the black asphalt of the highway, heating it up and, in turn, heating the air above it. Then the air rises and lifts the soaring bird ever higher. It is one of nature’s elevators for the bird and it enjoys the effortless ride up.

There are other places where there is uneven heating of the ground and birds find them to assist in gaining altitude for flight.

Our verse today speaks of birds soaring, and it becomes very clear to us that our great hope in the Lord is like a thermal that lifts us higher and higher in the heavens—away from the things that trouble us on earth. Being gently lifted up we find rest from the battle of life, and we renew our energy to pursue our holy calling in Jesus Christ.

The connection between hoping in the Lord and soaring like eagles is so important. We will find “thermals” to lift us up when we read precious promises like our verse for today.

“Thermals” can also be found when we review past occasions when the Lord delivered us from some difficulty. Another place to find a “thermal” and have our spirits lifted high is to search Scripture for information on our future hope.

Use some of our suggestions on thermals today to have your spirits lifted and to find renewal in your faith journey.

Look to the heavens, see the birds circling around thermals and be wise enough to come to the Lord for refreshment and strength. All the help you need and much more is in the hand of the Lord. He waits for you to come and take what you need. Come to Him and come now.
