Honouring The Lord

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do,
do it all for the glory of God.”
1 Corinthians 10:31 NIV

They were an elderly couple when I first met them 40 years ago. They dressed poorly and drove an old car to church. One Sunday when I preached at their church they asked if I would come for the noon meal to their home. Of course I agreed.

When we drove to their home it was in an apartment building in the older section of town. I followed them to their place and when I entered I noticed they had some fine antique furniture. I later learned they had owned an antique furniture store for many years and the things in their home were from the store.

When we sat in the kitchen to eat lunch I noticed photos of 20 children neatly posted on the wall. Upon inquiring I learned they supported all the children through a Christian organization known for helping poor families around the world. Of all the kind words spoken about this couple by church members no one mentioned the children they faithfully helped.

Being with this fine Christian couple reminded me of the words of Jesus in Matthew 25:35

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat,
I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink,
I was a stranger and you invited me in,
I needed clothes and you clothed me,
I was sick and you looked after me,
I was in prison and you came to visit me.”

This quiet couple had been supporting children around the world for decades and no one knew except the very few people they had entertained over the years and who noticed the photos of many children on their kitchen wall.

There was glory given to God by this couple in mission stations around the world and no one knew about it except those who benefited from the love and financial gifts faithfully given by these people. They surely glorified the Lord for years and very few knew except the Lord. This humble service will be known worldwide when Jesus comes to judge the world.

Are you content to do what is right even when no one knows? Will you continue faithful even if your faithful service to the Lord is not seen by anyone? Such anonymous faithful activity will get the Lord glory and will be seen by the One Who really counts. May you do everything much or little, seen or unseen, as to the Lord. He waits to hear from you so come to Him and come now.
