When Sin Isn't Sin

"....they did evil in the eyes of the Lord."
Judges 3:7 (NIV)

In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit.
Judges 17:6 (NIV)

With all the video cameras installed in banks and stores, thieves are having difficulty doing their work without being seen, or being caught on a surveillance camera.

Lights are on day and night—in the areas covered by such camera—to make catching a photo of the thief easier.

In John 3:19 (NIV) it says: "This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil."

Darkness is the friend of sinners, as they can do their evil deeds without being seen.

Somehow people who act against common rules of behaviour realize that they ought to hide under the cover of darkness, lest they are seen by others and the penalty for their actions administered. So sinners in the past have accepted the fact that they are acting against the laws of society and their actions need to be hidden.

In the last few decades, a different way of thinking has appeared.

In previous generations there was a common understanding of what was right and wrong.

In our modern world many people challenge the historically accepted rules of behaviour—and now anything goes.

When certain people are challenged about their behaviour and told it's wrong, they answer, "Says who?" In other words they challenge anyone to tell them they're doing wrong.

Now that society tends to think that we should make up our own rules, and not accept the laws of the past about right and wrong, we are on the brink of total moral collapse.

Our world is headed for a great disaster as we pursue this course when sin isn't sin.

We truly need a great revival of Christianity to keep the world from total collapse.

Christians everywhere need to pray that the Lord will visit the earth and turn people's hearts back to Himself and His Word.

The powerful preaching of men like George Whitefield and John Wesley saved Britain from the great social revolution of France in the late 1700's. God can do it again.

As we continue in 2024, as Christians, let us pray earnestly that there would be a powerful visitation from God to save our world from itself.

The Gospel is our world's only hope.
