Some years ago Susan and I were friends with a Christian couple who were both born blind.

We were amazed at how adept they both were with their computers. I'm certain they were faster doing their work on the computers than either Susan or myself.

When the Lord takes away one of our helpful senses—like our sight—there's usually a compensation by our other senses becoming better. Often someone who carries a white cane has told me of how they grew in the ability to hear, smell—and so on—following the loss of their sight.

In our passage today we read of a man blind from birth.

In our Lord's time people automatically assumed that if a person was a great sinner God would punish them by the loss of sight. This is why the disciples asked the Lord who sinned to cause the man's blindness, his parents or himself.

Our Lord responded by telling the disciples they were very wrong to assume God was using the blindness of the man to punish him or his parents. Instead, Jesus said that God got glory from the man's blindness and that was the reason for it.

I encourage you to read the entire story in John 9 and learn more about this remarkable man. Apparently he had no idea who Jesus was, but his faith in the Lord grew through conversing first with the leaders of the synagogue and then by talking to Jesus Himself.

The man went from ignorance to full faith in the space of a few hours.

We note he obeyed the Lord vss. 7, 11, believing that Jesus was able to heal him.

Then he confessed that Jesus was a prophet and spoke for God vss. 17, 32.

Finally he confessed Jesus as the Christ and worshipped Him v. 38.

This is how the man glorified God.

You and I give God glory when we obey Him, believe Him, confess Jesus, and worship Him.

Does this describe your relationship to Jesus? Do you confess that He is from God, has a message for us to believe and embrace, that He can forgive our sins, and that He is worthy of worship?

If you haven't encountered Jesus, you're spiritually blind.

You need to have the Lord open your heart to the truths concerning Jesus (Acts 16:14). Then you too will glorify the Lord by believing on Him, obeying Him, confessing Him as Lord, and worshipping Him.

Come to Him just as you are and call on Him to give you sight. He's willing and He's able, so come, and come now.
