The story of Jesus walking on the water is a dramatic and exciting event to consider.

We all want to know that Jesus can rescue us from the horrific and life-threatening problems that can come our way.

Once I was on a lake when a sudden storm threatened to capsize the boat and put us in imminent danger of losing our lives. There was nothing entertaining about the situation.

We prayed with and used all our strength to keep the boat afloat as we headed into the storm.

When we reached shore we almost kissed the ground in thanksgiving for firm footing once more.

At times we all sense the need for a Saviour Who can deliver us from such frightening situations.

But there's something about this story in the Gospels that most people miss entirely.

People fail to observe that the reason the disciples were in the boat that night was because Jesus told them to cross the sea. In other words, Jesus caused the disciples to get into a life threatening difficulty.

He might have told them to cross the sea the next morning when the storm had passed, but instead He told them to go immediately—and their obedience to Jesus was the source of the difficulty.

Once Moses became obedient to the Lord, his life was filled with frustrating issues that peaked when the people refused to enter the promised land as Moses asked them to.

Moses spent forty years in the Sinai desert wandering around because of the sin of the people He led. He wanted to obey God and march into the promised land, but the people's rebellion gave him forty years of horrible conditions.

Your life as a Christian may be filled with sorrow because you have chosen to walk with Jesus in this world.

Becoming a Christian will not solve all our problems. However, if we ask Him to help us when we face difficult times, He will give us wisdom to deal with our problems.

Remember Christian friend—this world is not your home.

You're a stranger in this life, looking for the city that God has made as the eternal home for all who love Him.

May you be filled today with the peace of God that is beyond understanding.

May your heart be full of the love of God.

May you always look past the troubles of today and instead look at the glory that shall be ours in that great day. Today's sorrows are not worth comparing with eternity's glory.
